Six Decisions that Will Change Your Life: Mature John 4:7-15 This week is the third week of our sermon series that accompanies our small group series based on Tom Berlin’s book 6 Decisions That Will Change Your Life. While we all make many decisions each day, these are 6 monumental decisions of our Christian journey. The first week we heard about the Decision to Follow, and last week it was the Decision for a New Life. This week we will discover what it means to make the Decision to Mature. Let us pray and begin. Prayer. Our scripture reading this morning opens with a Samaritan woman, Jesus, and a well. When this woman approaches the well, Jesus asks for her to give him a drink. At this request the woman is taken aback. It was unprecedented for a Jewish man to be asking her for anything. First of all, this woman was a Samaritan. The Samaritans and the Jews schismed after disagreeing on the proper place of worship. A feud that even scripture felt the need to clarify by explaining in verse 9 â€Å"Jews do not share things in common with Samaritans.† Second, she was meeting Jesus at the well alone. Which alludes to her being unclean, or impure, in some way that would prevent her from getting water when all of the other women do. Jesus approaching HER at all is startling to her, if not utterly confusing. Yet still, Jesus persists, saying if you only knew who I am and the gift that is before you. If you only knew, then you would ask for a drink and be given living water.
